How I Spent My Birthday

Yesterday (July 29) was my birthday. Besides working nine hours, it was a pretty good day.

My wife got me a Disney Theme Park exclusive Luke Frywalker Mr. Potato Head. My son got me two Star Wars bath/beach towels. Chewie and Han in Carbonite. They didn't plan it that way, but they both ended up giving me Star Wars gifts. That's not a bad thing!

We then went out to eat at Shogun Japanese Steakhouse. I had the shrimp and scallops. It was pretty good!

Saké!

We ended the day going to the Goodwill. I bought a couple of bags of junk, including some board games, CD's and other misc. stuff. Here's my favorite thing I found. A vintage 1980s Wizard wax Halloween air freshener. Neat!

I actually started celebrating my birthday last Saturday. It's the one time of the year my wife "let's me" go to the Tilted Kilt. They have pretty good food, also. ;)

All AmeriCon 6 Cosplayers

Here's some photos of the cosplayers from All AmeriCon 6.

Guest cosplayer Knightmage dressed as Medieval Spawn.

Knightmage cosplays for charity. All of his prints are free. He just asks that you give a donation.
I donated a few bucks and got an autographed picture of him as The Maxx.
All of the kids were winners.
But Megazord got special recognition.
The winners of the adult costume contest.

Here's some video I took of the costume contest.

All AmeriCon 6 Review

I had a really good time at All AmeriCon 6. Thanks to All American Cards and Comics for putting this show together. It was a fun little show with a nice mix of old and new comics and toys. My main reason for going was to meet comic book legend Michael Golden. I've been a huge fan of his since his run on Marvels's The Micronauts (1978/1979). Hopefully tomorrow I'll post about all of the wonderful cosplayers.

Me and Michael Golden.

Mr. Golden signing my comic books.

Autographed Hulk page from the 1981 Marvel calendar and The Micronauts #4.

Autographed ROM #9 and Incredible Hulk #248.

The General Lee

I bought this Hulk. I think I have a loose one, but this one has his boulder.

I also bought a bunch of The Empire Strikes Back Dixie cups. These are from 1981.

These are from 1982.

I bought an X-Men graphic novel and an issue of Savage Dragon autographed by Erik Larsen.

And I purchased this Fantastic Four print and an issue of Amazing Heroes for my brother's birthday. (Don't tell him.)

I also got some free comics.

There was a dealer there that only sold vintage Star Wars merchandise. I love this stuff!
But, I don't collect it. Because I'd be broke.

More Star Wars.

More Star Wars again.

Vintage issue of Mechanix Illustrated with the Creature from the Black Lagoon on the cover.
I probably should have bought this.

I have some of these cups, but I don't have a list of the ones I need.

An empty Mego Speedy box.

All AmeriCon 6

I'm going to this comic book show this Saturday. I'm really looking forward to meeting Michael Golden. I loved his art on the Micronauts. Look for photos to be posted next week.

Here's a link to their Facebook page.

Cleveland Classic Media

This is  really neat. The Cleveland Classic Media Facebook page is sharing some old slides from a local Cleveland TV station. Here's the description from the page:

"Several years ago someone at TV 8 WJW-TV was kind enough to offer me hundreds of "slides" which were used to promote Local and CBS Shows, as well as just utility slides for various purposes. While I've posted some in the past, it's been well over a year since I've posted any of them. Tonight I went through some of them and picked out 82 of them, which I will post over the next couple of days..Some I may have posted before but I seem to have multiple copies of some..Some I don't remember seeing before even though I've had these slides over two years (possibly longer). These date from the late WJW days (1976-77) until WJKW (1977-83. Some have the old "ei8ht" logo which would date them late '76, early '77."
Be sure to check them out. Here's some of my favorites so far.

The Quarter Box

My last post from the quarter box was on Feb. 6. Time to see what 25¢ books I've acquired since then.

I'm slowly rebuilding my Alpha Flight and New Mutants collection.

I love comics based on movies and TV shows from the 70s and 80s.
I got a complete run of Man From Atlantis!
Also, some Sheena, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Doctor Who, and V.

I can't resist some old horror comics!
And three books with covers by Michael Golden.
I already have them, but if I don't have to work next Saturday I'm going to a local comic show where he is the guest of honor.

Marvel Premiere, Marvel Spotlight and Amazing Adventure.

Marvel Universe, Man Eating Cow, What If...? and Fun and Games.

And last but not least, some magazines.
Starlog, Fangoria, Circus and Marvel Super Special.
