Countdown To Halloween 2017

Welcome! I know I haven't posted anything in almost a year, but I couldn't pass up the Halloween Countdown! I do still post stuff on a regular basis on the Facebook page. Check it out if that's your thing.

My plan this year is to share photos of the front and back covers of books in my collection. Of course they will all pertain to monsters, horror, Halloween and other things that go bump in the night. And I will occasionally throw in other Halloween posts.

Halloween Party!!!

My wife and I went to a Halloween Party Saturday night. We had a swell time! :)

Trick Or Treat 2016

Beggar's Night was on Saturday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM here in Akron. I made up 39 treat bags for the kids and had 25 of them left after two hours. Trick or Treat just ain't what it used to be. On the plus side it was 75° outside. That's the warmest I remember it being in a long while.

Halloween At The Rocksino

Last night the wife and I went to the Hard Rock Rocksino Northfield Park. It was nice to see that the place in the Halloween spirit.

I even played some Halloween inspired slot machines.

And a couple of non-Halloween slots.

I had a good time. Luckily, my wife won back some of our money! :) 

R.I.P. John Zacherle

Sad news. Legendary horror host Zacherley has died. I met him at the Monster Bash back in 2006.

The great John Zacherle, known to generations of horror fans as Zacherley, "The Cool Ghoul," has passed away at 98. The news came tonight as author Tom Weaver, a close friend of the Zacherle family, began informing colleagues of the the sad news, and an outpouring of tributes has already begun across the internet. 

A veteran of World War II, Zacherle started working at WCAU in Philadelphia in 1954, and in 1957, he got the job of being Philly's first late night horror movie host on Shock Theater, creating the character of Roland (pronounced Ro-LAND), who talked to his dead wife in her coffin. An association with Dick Clark, whose American Bandstand was based in Philadelphia, led to the recording of "Dinner With Drac" in 1958. He moved to New York's WABC in '59, became known as Zacherley and his show was renamed Zacherley At Large. He later hosted the Newark teenage dance show Disc-O-Teen, and was a DJ on WNEW and then WPLJ, where he stayed for ten years. 

Considered by many to be the greatest TV horror host of all-time, Zacherele has spent the last several decades appearing on TV, radio, and film and making personal appearances at conventions and special events. 

When I went to take a picture of his banner, he put his hand in the air. :)

Right now Boris Karloff is the runaway winner! I should have expected this. He is the iconic monster. I probably should have excluded him from the vote.
