Tricking and Treating

We had trick-or-treat here in Akron on Saturday night from 5:00 until 7:00. It was cold, wet and gloomy. I made 60 treat bags and ended up giving out 54 of them. A majority of the kids came around the first and last half hour of the night. Most of them had little or no costume at all. But, there was one really great costume and she let me take her picture. See below.

Candy! Candy! Candy!

Treat bags.

Ready to hand out candy to the beggars.

Best costume of the night! A girl in a home-made TARDIS costume with her little dinosaur dog.

Dark clouds are rolling in.

Meh...

Well that's a bit of an eye-opener - here I was picturing EVERY Hallowe'en in the USA as being the same as the ones in E.T. or Hocus Pocus, the streets packed full of costumed kids.

To hear that some of them didn't even wear costumes is nuts! Still, 60 callers in one night, back when I lived in a house (and not a flat) I think the all-time record was 15 in one night.

Does that mean no trick or treating on Halloween itself? Blah.

Sadly it is just about the candy and not the spirit here in the big city - I would like to imagine that the smaller towns still keep the spirit alive - We gave up the Halloweening years ago because of the too many 15+ year olds with NO costumes and crap attitudes and the parents of the littles who had lousy attitudes - Surprised to see the "gum"...when we were kids even in the 70's if it could easily be unwrapped it was suspect...I'm thinking of the orange and black wax wrapped "peanut butter" candies...I think they were that flavor - Great shot of the street...miss those mid-west neighborhoods - Happy Halloween WW!
