Stars Hall Of Fame

In the summer of 1976 my family went on vacation to Orlando, FL. We went to Walt Disney World, Cypress Gardens and this place......Stars Hall Of Fame Movie-TV Wax Museum (RIP 1975-1984). I don't remember a lot about the place, except that we saw a car from The Godfather that was full of bullet holes and my brother and I had this picture taken...

You Could Be a Vampire... If You Had To

Like most people, the thought of being a vampire has crossed your mind. But you're not sure if you'd do it, even if you could.
Living forever doesn't sound half bad, if you could live forever with the people you love the most.
But do vampires even love? And would the vampire version of you even be you?
It's all too much to contemplate. Luckily, the chances of you ever becoming a vampire are astronomically low.

What you would like best about being a vampire: Living forever

What you would like least about being a vampire: Blood stained teeth

I just noticed that Senses Working Overtime is down and he is putting his Halloween posts on Monster Rally.

Monster Pumpkins **Link Updated 10/26/08**

Not these monster pumpkins...

THESE monster pumpkins!

In 2003 Pumpkin Masters released a Universal Studios Monsters Carving Pattern Book. It features patterns for Frankenstein, The Bride of Frankenstein, Dracula, The Wolfman, The Mummy and Creature From The Black Lagoon (below). I've scanned the front and back covers along with all of the interior pages and included them in a zip file.

(NOTE: It may seem like I forgot some pages, but I didn't. The backs of the patterns are blank)

I've only attempted to carve one pattern from the book--

1970's Halloween Records

I was a monster kid in the 1970's. I only had a few spooky records back then, but I listened to them all the time. These are my favorites --

Sounds To Make You Shiver! - Released on the Pickwick label in 1974. Great sound effects and "story" album. You can download the album from Scar Stuff here.

A Story Of Dracula, The Wolfman And Frankenstein - Released by Power Records in 1975. Download it from Scar Stuff here.

These next ones are more sci-fi than monster, but they're still really cool. Back in the day I used to get Starlog magazine and they ocassionally included a flexi-disc record. Galactic Sound Effects (1979) and Greatest Science Fiction Themes by Neil Norman and his Cosmic Orch. are two of those records. You can download them from Bongolong Land here.

Dressing Up At Work

I worked at a local music store from 1997 until earlier this year when they went out of business. One of the cool things about the place was that they didn't mind if we wore Halloween costumes at work. I was always trying to think of which "overweight" TV character I could dress up as. The following photos are what I came up with.

2003 - My co-worker Ron as Gilligan and me as The Skipper

2004 - A couple of pictures of me as Uncle Fester

Fester and Bob (RIP)(not his real hair)

2005 - Fat Albert
(this one got a lot of looks from customers in the store)

Me with Ron as Scooby-Doo

Monster Comic Book Ads

Back on August 8th I shared some pictures of Aurora Monster Model ads from some old comic books. Here's another ad (thanks to my brother)--I always wanted to be a superhero or monster, but did anyone actually want to be the "Goof"?

Here's a link to a site that currently features 469 different Comic Book Ads (like the "Big Frankie" below). They're not all monster related, but they sure bring back a lot of memories. This link came from The Power Records Project Yahoo! Group courtesy of Dave who got it from Jason.

Halloween Is Coming...

It's October 1st and time for the Halloween posts. I don't think that I can do a post-a-day like some other blogs are doing, but I'll try to post every few days.

If you're in the Akron, OH area during the Halloween season, you can visit the Akron-Summit County Public Library for their Thursday Movies @ Main - Haunted Double Features. It's not that often that you can see these movies on the BIG SCREEN.
