The Return Of HUGO!

Here's the post I promised a couple of weeks ago. Better late than never.

A few weeks ago, me and my family took a weekend trip to the New Philadelphia area of Ohio. I spent all day Saturday at a scrapbooking crop while my wife and son spent the day shopping at the local Amish places. Sunday we went to the Riverfront Antique Mall. They had some nice toys and books that I was looking at. Then about halfway through, there he was! HUGO, Man Of A Thousand Faces! Sitting on the top shelf in a glass case. He'd been marked down to $32.00. After I got the OK from my wife, he was mine.Sitting right next to him was a 1970's Ideal Jaws Game for $45.00. Unfortunately my wife said no. Hugo has about half of his disguise pieces and glue residue on his face. But, he still has the box! It's a little beat up, but it's there. I think I got a pretty good deal.

My Mego Memories

Sorry I haven't been around lately. I have a new obsession. MEGO'S! My brother and I had most of these action figures when we were kids. World's Greatest Superheroes, Star Trek, Planet of the Apes and the Mad Monsters. I love those guys. I still have my Hulk (8 inch and 12 inch), Gene Simmons and Micronauts. My brother still has the Fantastic Four and a few others. Here's a childhood photo of our Mego's and other figures having some kind of brawl. I'm not sure what they're fighting about.

Thanks to the generosity of several members and some trades, I currently have over half the set. It's not an easy set to complete, some of the cards have become quite rare, but that's half the fun of collecting. THE CHASE!

Frankenstein View-Master Part II

Back on Oct. 28 I made a post about the Frankenstein View-Master by GAF from 1976. I included scans of the packet and the read-along booklet. But, I couldn't copy the frames from the reels. Thanks to blog-reader Neal Snow for copying most of the frames and giving me permission to use them (frames one through four are missing). I've included the captions from the reels under each picture. Here's Neal's original message --

Easter Mix 2008

I posted an Easter mix last year, but that file is long gone. This year's mix includes the 14 tracks from last year plus more. The first 15 tracks on this mix I ripped from CD's myself. The only new one is Easter Parade by Frank Sinatra. The rest of the tunes I downloaded from other blogs (I hope they don't mind me including them). Tracks 16 and 17 originally came from Fudgeland. Tracks 18-24 came from Music You (Possibly) Won't Hear Anyplace Else. And tracks 25-29 are from The 2007 365 Days Project.

OMG, Luke is Sooo Wrong!
We never really noticed how often Luke is way off the mark on more than a few of his assumptions. But now that the crafty fans at YTMND have added big buzzer noises and “wrong!” screams into the dialog, it’s all the more obvious.

Finding the Quizbook Master
Rusty Miller has been found!

Anyone who was around for the original trilogy back in the '70s and '80s might recall the name Rusty Miller -- you know, that 11-year-old fan prodigy who compiled a list of 425 Star Wars trivia questions for The Jedi Master's Quizbook back in 1982.

Star Wars Merch That Never Was
Oh man, we sure wish some of these rejected product ideas pitched by Pepsi back in 1999 had seen the light of day — an AT-AT chair caddy? A Han in Carbonite mini-fridge? Princess Leia headphones? And the best of all, a Jabba the Hutt beanbag chair? The company did end up releasing some pretty cool life-size statues of Jar-Jar, Darth Maul, Yoda, and Watto, but come on, they couldn’t throw in a Jedi Mood Ring?

Let’s hope it’s not too late for some of these inspired ideas to eventually come down the pike. Until then, head on over to actionfigureinsider.com to check them out.
