Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes 2012
Almost every year for the past 20 or so years I've participated in this walk. It's the one cause that I'm closest to. I'm diabetic. So is my brother. And so were our parents.
I am walking and raising funds for the American Diabetes Association's signature fundraising walk, Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes. Every step I take and every dollar I raise will make a difference in the lives of 23.6 million Americans living with diabetes. By making a donation on my behalf, you will be helping the Association provide community-based education programs, protect the rights of people with diabetes and fund critical research for a cure.
No matter how small or large, your generous donation will help us Stop Diabetes.

Step Out: Walk To Stop Diabetes 2011
Diabetes runs in my family. I currently control my diabetes with medication. But my brother still has it and our parents were both diabetic. I know firsthand what a diabetic has to go through and I don't like it.
My goal is to reach $200 in donations by October 2. Hopefully I can reach my goal with your help. No donation is too small or too large. Every little bit helps.

Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes 2010
Hey Everybody,
On October 3, 2010 I will be joining more than 100,000 fellow walkers from across the country in this year’s Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes to raise money for the American Diabetes Association.
I will be gathering donations and walking to help stop diabetes.
I've been participating in this walk for almost 15 years now. I missed it last year, but in 2008 I raised $230. My goal this year is $300.
I am asking for your help. By making a donation on my behalf, you will be helping the American Diabetes Association provide community-based education programs, protect the rights of people with diabetes and fund critical research for a cure.
Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy needed for daily life. The cause of diabetes continues to be a mystery, although both genetics and environmental factors appear to play roles. There are 23.6 million Americans living with diabetes, a disease that is outpacing heart disease, cancer and AIDS. If current trends continue, one in three children born in the year 2000 will develop diabetes in their lifetime.
I believe that my participation in this year’s Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes can and will make a difference. Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes is one of the American Diabetes Association’s biggest fundraisers. With the help of people like you, the American Diabetes Association can raise over $20 million to help stop diabetes.
Please help me reach my goal by supporting me for this year’s Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes. All donations, big or small, are greatly appreciated. Please go to my Web Page at http://main.diabetes.org/goto/erickbognar, to make a secure, 100% tax deductible donation.
Together we can stop diabetes. One step at a time.
Thank you.

We Interupt The Countdown For This Special Message
Here's the photos taken by me and my son --
Me and Zippy, the Akron U mascot.
Me and the Country Diner Bear.
These next two photos feature the back of my son (in the black hoodie). He didn't want me to take his picture.
The geese were mocking us as we walked through their poop.
The Gojo building. It's kinda blurry because I took it while I was walking.
I was unaware that there was a street dedicated to Paul Williams!?!
Thanks again to everyone who contributed. I really appreciate it.

A Little Reminder

I'm participating in the Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes this coming Sunday, October 5th. Diabetes runs in my family. My brother and I are diabetic and so were our parents. Fortunately, my brother and I can keep it under control by just taking medication. For now. I've been walking to fight diabetes for over 10 years and hope that you will consider helping me make a change to this growing epidemic.
A few facts about diabetes --
- About one in 10 American adults now has diabetes.
- Diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death by disease in the U.S.
- One out of every three Americans born today will develop diabetes in their lifetime if present trends continue.
- Nearly 5.7 million people (nearly one-quarter) of the 23.6 million children and adults in the U.S. living with diabetes are unaware that they have the disease.
Any donation to my campaign would be greatly appreciated. No matter how small or large your contribution is, it all goes to a very good cause.

America's Walk For Diabetes

Recently I accepted the challenge of walking in the American Diabetes Association's Walk for Diabetes annual fund-raising event (I've been walking for over 10 years). I am involved because I believe in and support the Association's mission: to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. Diabetes runs in my family, my brother and I have it and our parents were both diabetic.
You, too, can help by supporting my fund-raising efforts with a generous contribution. Your tax-deductible gift will make a difference to the more than 20 million American adults and children who are affected by this disease, and another 40 million who are at risk for developing diabetes.
Now it's faster and easier than ever to support this great cause! You can make your donation online with a credit card just by clicking the link at the bottom of this message.
You can learn more about the American Diabetes Association, its programs and diabetes in general at www.diabetes.org. For more information on America's Walk for Diabetes, please visit www.diabetes.org/walk.
As the number of Americans diagnosed with diabetes increases, your generous gift will help us move one step closer to finding a cure! I greatly appreciate your support.
Diabetes can lead to blindness, heart disease, stroke, kidney failure and amputations. Common signs of diabetes are extreme thirst, frequent urination, and/or unexplained weight loss. You are at an increased risk for type 2 diabetes if you are: African-American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, Asian American or Pacific Islander; Over age 45; Underactive; Overweight or obese; Someone with a family history of diabetes; A woman who has had a baby weighing more than nine ponds at birth. To take the diabetes risk test online, visit diabetes.org/risktest.
All donations should be made by Oct. 8. That's when I walk. Thank you.
