I'm 50 Years Old Today! How Did This Happen?

Man, 50 seemed really old when I was a kid. Now, not so much. Well, my body feels like it's 90, but in my mind I'm still a little kid. :)

I had a birthday party this past Saturday. I haven't had a birthday party in many decades. But, I thought 50 was a pretty big milestone. Instead of buying me a gift, my wife (with a little help from me) put the party together. It was held in my mother-in-laws church, because it was free since she's a member. It was decorated in a nerd theme with the colors being green and purple, representing my fondness of the Incredible Hulk (not the Joker as my brother teased lol).

I had a really wonderful time reminiscing with both old and new family, friends and co-workers. And now for some photos:

Food table 1.

Food table 2.

Memories table.

I was really happy that Ace Frehley could make it! :)

The church even had a purple cross on the wall. But, I wasn't allowed to decorate it.

The church was a Pokéstop, so a bunch of us were playing Pokémon Go!

I had a white cake with cherry filling.

Yum!

And now for some gifts.
Vintage Hulk comic and foreign Pokémon cards.

Toys 'R' Us gift card.

SDCC and Gamestop exclusive Cowboy Deadpool Funko Pop!

Everybody knows I have a t-shirt addiction. :)
Superman

Unleash the Hulk

The Muppet Show

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

How I Spent My Birthday

Yesterday (July 29) was my birthday. Besides working nine hours, it was a pretty good day.

My wife got me a Disney Theme Park exclusive Luke Frywalker Mr. Potato Head. My son got me two Star Wars bath/beach towels. Chewie and Han in Carbonite. They didn't plan it that way, but they both ended up giving me Star Wars gifts. That's not a bad thing!

We then went out to eat at Shogun Japanese Steakhouse. I had the shrimp and scallops. It was pretty good!

Saké!

We ended the day going to the Goodwill. I bought a couple of bags of junk, including some board games, CD's and other misc. stuff. Here's my favorite thing I found. A vintage 1980s Wizard wax Halloween air freshener. Neat!

I actually started celebrating my birthday last Saturday. It's the one time of the year my wife "let's me" go to the Tilted Kilt. They have pretty good food, also. ;)

Happy Birthday José Luis García-López

Today is comic book artist José Luis García-López's 67th birthday! He's a Spanish artist that has done most of his work for DC Comics. I met him way back in 1989 at a local comic book show where he drew this picture of Batman for me. The paper is 11 x 14.

Of course, my favorite book that he drew is DC Special Series #27: Batman vs. The Incredible Hulk (1981).

Blogiversary, Birthday and a Giveaway!

Well, I missed the anniversary of Wonderful Wonderblog. On July 18 this blog turned eight years old! Wow! Whoda thunkit? It's kind of hard to believe I've been doing this for that long. I don't post as much as I used to, so I really appreciate everyone that has hung around.

Also, tomorrow (July 29th) is my birthday! I'll be 48 years old! Yikes! In my mind I'm still a little kid playing with toys and reading comic books. But, my body let's me know I'm not that young anymore. :)

So, to celebrate the blogiversary and my birthday, I thought I'd give one loyal fan of Wonderful Wonderblog some gifts. I'm not going to say what they are, because I'm not sure yet. I'll sort through some of my junk treasures and put together a prize package. It'll probably contain some toys, comics, trading cards, etc. All you have to do to enter is leave a comment below. Make sure your email address is in your profile or leave it in your comment. I'll randomly pick a winner in one week on August 4th.

***Giveaway is now closed. Thanks to everyone who entered***

Thanks for checking out Wonderful Wonderblog these past eight years! Now, start leaving those comments!

Oh, one last thing. If anyone would like to get me a belated birthday present, here's some toys that I owned in my youth, but lost track of over the years. LOL

Han Solo In Carbonite Ice Cubes

For my birthday back at the end of July, my son bought me this Han Solo In Carbonite silicone ice tray. I finally used it this past weekend and here are the results. It's kind of hard to see. But, they looked pretty cool. Might have to try it with a colored liquid.

Happy Birthday To Me!!!

It's that time of year again: MY BIRTHDAY!!! Yay me!

I had a really swell birthday weekend. Saturday morning went to Golden Corral for the breakfast buffet with the family. They had deep fried bacon! I thought it would be awesome, but it was just ok. I still prefer regular bacon.

Saturday afternoon I got my Hulk tattoo. Don't let anyone fool you. It hurt like crazy! I'll make a separate tattoo post in a little bit.

Sunday afternoon I saw The Wolverine. I really enjoyed it. Even though it wasn't completely comic book accurate.

And today I noticed I got my own Google Doodle! I have a Google + account that I don't use. Am I the only one that can see this? Or does the whole world know it's my birthday.  lol

Blogiversary's, Birthday's and Tattoo's

On July 18, Wonderful Wonderblog celebrated it's seven year blogiversary and this is my 1023rd post! It sure doesn't feel like I've been doing this that long. Lots of things have changed in seven years. I used to share out-of-print music. I don't do that anymore since they started cracking down on it. Although I may still put together an occasional compilation. Also, I don't blog as much as I used to. I seem to always feel too tired or I just can't find the time to do it. I guess that happens when you get old. :)

Speaking of getting old. Next Monday is my 47th birthday. If anyone wants to get me a present, you can check out my Amazon Wish List at the bottom of the blog. I thank you in advance. lol  I got my first birthday gift today in the mail from my brother. He bought me Marvel Essential The Defenders Vol. 6 and a weird little stuffed Hulk. Thanks bro!

And from my wife, I'm getting a tattoo. She's not actually going to do it, she just agreed to let me get it. This will be my first tattoo (mid-life crisis?) and I'm a little nervous. I'm getting a classic Sal Buscema Hulk on my right calf (see picture below). Also, It will be in full color. I'll post some photos after I get it this Saturday.

If any of you have a nerdy, dorky, retro, pop culture, comic book, cartoon, monster, sci-fi or just plain cool tattoo that you'd like to share, you can email a picture of it to me and I'll put them together for a future post.

Thanks everyone for checking out Wonderful Wonderblog. I hope you get at least a little enjoyment out of the dorky stuff I post here!

My Birthday Update

My day was OK. The wife and I went to a little restaurant for lunch called Fred's Diner. It's kind of a dive, but they have great food. For dinner, my wife made Spanish rice. It was awesome as usual! Other than that, all I did was some laundry and cut the rose bushes in the front yard.

I forgot to mention that my brother got me Essential Defenders Vol. 5 and my nephew stayed with us Thursday and Friday night. It was great seeing him, he's only able to visit a few times a year.

Happy Birthday Wil Wheaton

Besides today being my birthday, it's also Wil Wheaton's birthday. Wil has also declared July 29 as Don't Be A Dick Day. Click here to see how you can celebrate DBADD!

Mars Attacks My Birthday!

My birthday is Sunday July 29, but I celebrated a day early. My wife took me to The Toys Time Forgot ( a local vintage toy store; see some pics I took there a few months ago here). She gave me some money and said "buy whatever you want". Wow, was that tough. I wanted everything! Here's what I ended up with --

An unopened box of the new Mars Attacks Heritage trading cards from Topps. This card set is beautiful. It reprints the original 55 Mars Attacks cards from 50 years ago plus has some new cards called Deleted Scenes and New Universe. I got a full set of base cards, some of the inserts (the 3-D cards are great) and this one-of-a-kind sketch card by artist Ingrid Hardy.

I also bought a vintage Marx Hulk figure from 1967.

And six packs of Battle of the Planets trading cards by Dynamic Forces from 2002. I pulled this wonderful sketch of Keyop by Dan Parsons.

We went to breakfast at IHOP and dinner at The Brick House. Not too bad of a day. A great big thank you to my wonderful wife for making this all happen. She's a keeper :)

Last weekend I went to the North Coast Comic Con here in Akron (it sucked), but I did commission artist Don Pedicini Jr. to draw me a Hulk sketch card. I got it in the mail Friday.
