Celebrating The Bicentennial At Walt Disney World

Walt Disney World and Disneyland both celebrated the USA's bicentennial from June 1975 to September 1976. In July of 1975 my family went on vacation to Orlando, FL. Me, my brother, dad, mom and grandma all piled in the station wagon on a two day drive from Ohio to Florida. We stayed in a rented condo and spent a lot of time in the swimming pool, ocean and fishing. We also visited Walt Disney World, Cypress Gardens, and Stars Hall of Fame Wax Museum. Today I'm sharing my photos from Disney World.

Ben Franklin picked my brother and me out of the audience to come up on stage with him. He gave a speech and then handed us both a copy of the Declaration of Independence and a metal.

My brother and me photobombed by grandma. :)

Alligator Swamp

The Pirates of the Caribbean

Jungle Cruise

Log cabin with a canon.

The Magic Kingdom

My brother and me on Main Street.

The Admiral Jim Fowler Steamboat

We probably had this guide back then, Wish I still did.

I do still have this copy of the Declaration of Independence. I still have the medal somewhere.

I also have this Indian vest and necklace.

And still have the gun and tomahawk from my trip to Disney World 41 years ago!

Firecracker Labels

Happy Independence Day to everyone in the USA!

What's more American than blowing your fingers off with small explosives! :)

I found these firecracker labels posted in the Facebook group Vintage Monster Toys.
I thought they were really neat. Thank you to the original posters in that group.

Happy 4th of July from The Muppets

I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe July 4th.

My wife and I are going to see the movie The Heat and then I'm going to grill pork chops, hamburgers and corn on the cob. Nom nom nom!

Here's some patriotic Muppet videos to get you in the holiday spirit.

Happy Birthday, America!

Here's some Fourth of July facts from Uncle John's Bathroom Reader.

  • Congress actually voted for American independence on July 2, 1776, but the documents weren't printed until two days later. The printer recorded July 4 as the "official" date of independence, and Americans have celebrated it on that day ever since.
  • Although the Independence Day barbecue has become a symbol of the holiday, only about 25 percent of Americans actually attend one.
  • More than 14,000 different fireworks displays -- using 238 million pounds of pyrotechnics -- occur every July 4.
  • The original title of "The Star Spangled Banner" was "The Defense of Fort McHenry."

America the Beautiful by Vincent Price

I know I haven't been blogging much lately, hopefully someday I'll get back into it.You can follow Wonderful Wonderblog on Facebook. Just click the "like" button in the Facebook badge on the right. I've been posting some stuff over there that's not on the blog.

What I have for you today is something for you to listen to on the Fourth of July. It's a record from1961 called "America the Beautiful - The Heart of America in Poetry" spoken by Vincent Price. This album was originally shared by the blog Azathoth's Abode on the Plateau of Leng back in 2008. This blog has been dormant for sometime and the link to this share is dead. So, I hope they don't mind if I re-share it. Enjoy and have a happy July 4th!

Happy Independence Day!

I hope everyone has a happy and safe 4th of July. Don't blow your arm off!

I found these scans from The Mighty Marvel Bicentennial calendar on the Sanctum Sanctorum Comix blog. I had these calendars when I was a kid. Unfortunately, my brother and I cut them up.
