Jingle Bell Rocks!

I saw the documentary Jingle Bell Rocks! this past Saturday at The Nightlight here in Akron, OH. I really enjoyed it. I collect weird Christmas music, but nothing like the guys in this movie. I was surprised and excited to see Wonderful Wonderblog linked on the Jingle Bell Rocks! website under "Kindred Christmas Spirits"! If you get a chance to see this, DO IT!

About Jingle Bell Rocks!

In JINGLE BELL ROCKS!, director Mitchell Kezin delves into the minds of some of the world’s most legendary Christmas music fanatics and hits the road to hang with his holiday heroes – including hip hop legend Joseph “Rev Run” Simmons of RUN-D.M.C., The Flaming Lips’ frontman Wayne Coyne, filmmaker John Waters, bebopper Bob Dorough, L.A. DJ and musicologist Dr. Demento, and Calypso legend The Mighty Sparrow. In his search for the twelve best, underappreciated Christmas songs ever recorded, Kezin both asks and answers the question, “Why, when Christmas rolls around, are we still stuck cozying up with Bing Crosby under a blanket of snow?”

Equal parts social history, pop culture pilgrimage, and revealing character study, JINGLE BELL ROCKS! follows this motley crew of merry misfits as they confront the Christmas music mainstream, reinventing the seasonal soundtrack for the 21st century. With rollicking live performances, intimate interviews, and a kaleidoscope of touching and rare archive footage, JINGLE BELL ROCKS! is a cinematic sleigh-ride into the strange and sublime universe of alternative Christmas music. It’s also a mix-tape of twelve of the weirdest, wildest, most poignant Christmas songs you’ve never heard.

Enjoying a sarsaparilla.

New Christmas T-Shirt #1

There's only nine days until Christmas! I guess I should do some holiday posts.

I got four new shirts this year. One from Walmart and three from Old Navy. I was Christmas shopping in the mall this past weekend and happened to go into Old Navy. Lo and behold all of their Christmas shirts were on sale for $4.00 each! They are regularly like $13.

Here's the first one. I wore it to work today and most people didn't realize it was a Christmas shirt. They just thought I was "special". lol

Thanksgiving Cutout #1

This seemed to go over petty well for Halloween, so I thought I'd do it for Thanksgiving! The only problem is I only have three Thanksgiving cutouts. You'll see one cutout per day for the next three days. Enjoy! :)

Akron Comicon 2014 Review Part 4: And The Rest

This is my last post about this year's Akron Comicon.

Just some randomness from the show.

The cover of the program.

There weren't a lot of vintage toys. This dealer had some stuff under his table. I love the old lunch boxes.

And the Ben Cooper Batman costume. I have that Hulk game.

My brother, nephew and me as the Avengnerds!

I also love vintage trading cards. This dealer has been around here forever! I remember buying from him when I was a kid.

More cards!

Some day this will be mine!

Wall 'o comics!

Happy Life Day!

Akron Comicon 2014 Review Part 3: Stuff I Bought

I go to these comic book shows and never buy any actual comic books! Haha! Here's what I did pick up:

Hulk Marvel Universe figure, Hulk String Doll and one KISS trading card.

The original art for Hulk Annual #17 (1991), page 18. Story: Subterranean Wars (Part II) - As Old as the Hills. Written by Peter David, penciled by Ron Wagner, inked by Mike Witherby.
Inker Mike Witherby had a stack of original art for $25 each. He had two pages from this issue and I liked this one better. Even though it doesn't actually feature the Hulk, it does have Rick Jones, Mole Man and Tyrannus. I'm gonna have to glue the word balloons back on.

Animation cel from the 1995-96 Savage Dragon cartoon. Bought from Art-Toons.

Painter Smurf production drawing from the 1980s Smurf cartoon. Also bought from Art-Toons.

Acroyear from the Micronauts sketch card by artist Carter Allen.

Knifehead from Pacific Rim sketch greeting-card by Carter Allen. I won this sketch at his table.
