I'm In a Halloween Documentary!

Or, rather, an old photo of me is.

There's a new documentary out called "Halloween in a Box" from HNN Productions. It premiered on October 1st on several different VOD sites including Amazon and YouTube.

Here's a description of the movie:

"Before the days of elaborate Halloween costumes, there were costumes in a box. Remember them? We seemingly all wore these costumes as kids. Now hear the story behind these costumes and the history of the big three companies that made them, Ben Cooper Inc, Halco, and Collegeville. For years, these costumes were a beloved Halloween institution dating back in the 1930s. In 1982 at the height of their popularity, the first case of domestic terrorism shook the United States and threatened to cancel Halloween forever. In an effort to save the holiday, the costume giants, although rivals in business, were forced to come together and unify or trick or treating would become extinct."

Apparently, they used that old photo of me and my brother dressed as Superman and Batman from 1972. That picture sure gets around. I've seen it posted on a couple of other sites, also. The documentary looks really cool. I might have to check it out.

Thanks to Tom from the wonderful blog Garage Sale Finds for letting me know about it.

1977 Ben Cooper Incredible Hulk Costume

I bought this costume for my Hulk collection a few years ago and I don't think I've ever shared pics of it. I believe I paid $40 for it.

Halloween In 1970s New York

Photographer Larry Racioppo took these pictures in the mid to late 1970s. He released a book called Halloween featuring these and many more photos. The photos are courtesy of The New York Public Library Digital Collections. Here's my favorites:

Halloween With Barry

Fan of Wonderful Wonderblog, Barry Rubin, sent me a few of his old Halloween photos. Thanks Barry!

Here's a couple of pics of Barry from 1976 wearing the classic Ben Cooper Spider-Man costume.

To quote Barry, "me as Groucho from 1982...when kids could wear masks to their Halloween school parade!"

Planet of the Apes Costumes

I can't remember all of the Halloween costumes I wore as a child unless I have a photograph of them. My brother remembers wearing this Ceaser costume in 1974.

He's not sure, but he thinks I had this Warrior costume.

Man, I wish i had photos of them.
