Krazy Little Comics: The Incredible Hunk

In 1967 Topps test marketed a set of mini-comics called Krazy Little Comics. There were a total os 16 comics in the series including spoofs of popular Marvel, DC and comic strips of the day. They were written by Roy Thomas with art by Wally Wood and Gil Kane. For whatever reason the set was never mass produced and the ones that are out there are highly sought after. My brother found scans of the six Marvel books and I thought I'd share them with you. Hopefully we can find the rest of them.

Up first is a spoof of my favorite comic book character of all time. I now present to you --

Content Acknowledgment Award

Jeremy from Olive Monkeys has given me the "Content Acknowledgment Award". I'm very honored. My blog doesn't have the most content, but I'm really glad some people enjoy it. The "CAA" is given out monthly and the Wonderful Wonderblog is only the third blog to receive it. The coolest thing about this award is that it's blog specific, which means I don't have to share it with anyone else :)

Make sure you visit Jeremy's other blogs, they're chock full of good stuff --

Jury Duty

I don't usually rant. I'm not much of a ranter. But, this is kinda pissing me off. I've been called for jury duty and I don't want to go.

Jurors are randomly selected from the pool of registered voters in my county. This is the fourth time I've been called in my 25 years of voting. Can I UNregister to vote?

It's not that I'm not patriotic, I love the good ol' USA. It's just a big pain in the arse to do this. For starters, I don't drive. My wife will drop me off at the courthouse before she goes to work. Which means I will be there over an hour early. I have to call her when I'm done. She'll have to leave work to pick me up.

Also, having to interact with people I don't know makes me very uncomfortable. I don't even like to call to order a pizza. I'll probably get myself all worked up and vomit.

It says this in big, bold and underlined letters on the summons --

FAILURE TO RESPOND TO SUMMONS OR APPEAR FOR JURY DUTY WILL SUBJECT YOU TO POSSIBLE CONTEMPT OF COURT PROCEEDINGS OR FINE AS PROVIDED BY OHIO LAW

I can't believe that in this day and age I am being bullied by the government to do something against my will! Whatever.

End of rant.

Corey Haim, R.I.P.

Wow! He was way too young. R.I.P. Corey.

From the L.A. Times --
Actor Corey Haim, who was pronounced dead at a Burbank hospital early Wednesday morning, likely died of an accidental overdose involving prescription drugs, law enforcement sources told The Times.

The 38-year-old actor, best known for his role in the movie "The Lost Boys," was taken to Providence St. Joseph Medical Center after being found unresponsive at his home. He was officially pronounced dead at 3 a.m. at the hospital.

Sources familiar with the death investigation -- who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the case was ongoing -- said detectives recovered prescription drugs from the home. It did not appear that foul play or illegal drugs were involved, the sources said.

Even so, they stressed that the investigation, which is now being handled by the Los Angeles County coroner's office, will take weeks to determine an official cause of death. In addition to an autopsy, the coroner will conduct toxicology tests that take six to eight weeks to complete.

Police learned of Haim's death when staff at the hospital called authorities between 4 and 4:30 a.m., said Sgt. Frank Albarren of the Los Angeles Police Department's North Hollywood Station.

"It was an apparent overdose,'' Albarren told reporters. "Unknown what type of medication."

The coroner's office is also handling the death investigation after taking over from Los Angeles police detectives, who determined there was no foul play.

Haim also starred in "Lucas" and appeared in other movies as a child but had struggled with drugs as an adult. He recently starred in a reality TV show focusing on his efforts to restart his acting career.

An American Idea (Disc 1006)

I originally shared this over at FaLaLaLaLa.com at Christmastime. I hope to have the other ones done by July 4th. I'm still not real good at scanning covers, so this photo comes from an eBay auction.
In 1975 Susquehanna Stations produced (I believe) seven two-record sets called An American Idea. They were provided to radio stations to play a track almost every day from July 1975 until July 1976 in celebration of the Bicentennial. I found five of the seven sets at a local thrift store. My share today is Disc 1006 which features air dates December 15, 1975 to January 10, 1976. They're not all Christmas related, but I thought I would share the whole record.

From inside the jacket --

"AN AMERICAN IDEA" is the unique and dynamic series of radio vignettes developed by The Susquehanna Stations in conjunction with our nation's Bicentennial observance, and heard on America's greatest radio stations.

More than three years of development lie behind the painstakingly-researched and expertly-produced vignettes, approximately one minute in length, heard by thousands of loyal listeners, six days weekly, through the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1976!

This compelling program series deals with the broad scope of American history, realizing that America is the product of hundreds of years' effort by millions of people...not just the creation of a few well-known men of the late 18th Century; and highlights a variety of people, places and events which contributed to America's greatness.

Caroline McWilliams, R.I.P.

I just heard about this yesterday. I used to watch Benson and Soap all the time back in the day.

From E! Online --

The small screen has just lost one of its familiar faces.

Benson and Soap star Caroline McWilliams died Feb. 11 at her home in Los Angeles from complications of multiple myeloma, her family told the Los Angeles Times. She was 64-years-old.

McWilliams began her career on the soap opera Guiding Light in 1969 followed by a stint on Another World before she broke into prime time with Soap. That was soon followed by her most famous role, Marcy Hill opposite Robert Guillaume on Benson.

In 1982, McWilliams married Michael Keaton. They had one son, Sean Douglas, but divorced in 1990. Around that time, she appeared in the movie Mermaids and on Beverly Hills, 90210, as the mother to Jamie Walters' character.

McWilliams also enjoyed the theater, frequently performing onstage and directing live productions.

Toy Fair 2010 - Part 4

I had planned on posting Toy Fair photos all week, but I was really tired from work the last couple of days and didn't feel like doing much of anything. So now that I'm well rested, here's my last Toy Fair 2010 post.

Hasbro

Tyme Machines

What toys are you most looking forward to?  I like a lot of them, but they are either too expensive or are only available online. And I don't usually buy stuff online. I really like the Lost and Universal Monster Mego-like figures. Being a Hulk fan, I think that Abomination is da bomb. And that Tauntaun sleeping bag is wickedly cool. If I only buy stuff I see in the stores, it'll probably be the Metal Men Gold figure and the Star Wars flash drives.
